Recording a Voiceover Narration

To record a voiceover narration, you speak about each slide, advancing through the
slideshow at your natural speed. As you advance through each slide or build, your
timing is recorded as well and will be preserved when the slideshow is played back
for viewers.

To record the voiceover, you can use the computer’s built-in microphone or attach an
external one. If you’re using an external microphone, first attach it and use the sound
pane of System Preferences to configure the input settings.

To record a voiceover narration:

1

Select any slide on which you want the recording to start. If you select a skipped slide,

recording starts with the nearest previous unskipped slide.

2

Do one of the following:

Open the Document inspector, click Audio, and click Record.

Â

Choose File > Record Slideshow.

The slideshow begins to play. A pulsing red light in the upper-left corner of the screen
indicates that recording is in progress.

3

As the presentation plays, speak clearly into the microphone to record your narration.

4

To advance to the next slide, click the mouse button or press the Right Arrow key.

5

To pause the recording, click the red recording indicator, or press any of the

following keys:
W: White screen
F: Freeze
B: Black screen
Press any key to resume the recording.

6

When you’ve finished recording all the slides you want to include in your voiceover

narration, press the Escape key to stop slideshow playback and save the recording.
In the Document pane of the Document inspector, notice that the Recorded option
appears in the Presentation pop-up menu. A recorded slideshow plays only from
the first recorded slide (the one you selected in step 1, above). If you click Play in
the toolbar and the presentation doesn’t play as expected, make sure you’ve chosen
Recorded from the Presentation pop-up menu in the Document inspector.

7

To listen to the narration without playing the slideshow, click the Play button on

the Audio pane of the Document inspector. Adjust the volume by dragging the
Volume slider.

Rerecording a Voiceover Narration in a Recorded Slideshow

If you recorded a slideshow and then modified some of its slides or add new ones at
the end, the recording might be out of sync with the slides. You can rerecord the entire
slideshow or append further narration at the end of the slideshow to include new
slides that you’ve added.

To rerecord or add to an existing voiceover narration:

1

Select the slide on which you want to start rerecording.

2

Open the Document inspector and click Audio.

3

Click Record.

4

If the selected slide was previously recorded, do one of the following:

To replace the previous recording, starting with the selected slide, click Record &

Â

Replace. If there was recording before the first rerecorded slide, it remains intact.
To replace the entire recording, click Record From Beginning.

Â

5

If the selected slide was not previously recorded, do one of the following:

To append the new recording to the end of the previous recording, click
